On the last Friday of every month, The Ideal Theater & Bar turns its old silent-film house into the one floor in Cedar Rapids tuned to move you, house opening up into bass, riddim, and techno, a sound system pushed to rattle your ribs and cut the highs clean, in a room small enough that the whole floor moves as one thing. Every subgenre has a place here, and every body has a space. This is the night the people who kept driving to Chicago and Minneapolis to dance stopped having to leave town. It runs 21 and up by design, a curated floor and not a college bar, craft cocktails in hand, no screens, nothing between you and the beat until last call.
