Friday belongs to The Ideal, where Kris Lager brings a road-tested blues-rock band home for one night. Saturday is less marquee-name, more neighborhood texture: Art Mart at CSPS in the morning, then the I Know Jack bike ride and benefit concert turning Sag Wagon into a grassroots block party by evening.
The better version of this week does not require leaving Cedar Rapids or chasing the biggest poster. It rewards people willing to make more than one stop.

Kevin Gordon and Carol Montag are the kind of writers who reward that format. If FEASTival is the day's public option, this is the after-dark counterweight: a room full of people who came specifically to listen.

A craft-beverage and wood-fired-pizza tasting benefiting Indian Creek Nature Center is easy to scroll past because it does not look like the obvious Thursday-night pick. Do not. The setting does real work here: a wooded trail system instead of another patio, live music from bassist Blake Shaw, and a benefit evening that actually feels composed.

August 27-31 · Market After Dark, Illuminations, Lion Bridge, and Cassill Motors Details
Market After Dark returns downtown Saturday, August 29, 6:30-11 PM, with 100-plus vendors and Diamond Empire Band closing out the corridor's biggest after-dark street market.
Before that, Illuminations hosts a Thursday Rune Pendant Workshop with a sound ceremony, the kind of niche maker-meets-wellness crossover that only turns up if you are paying attention.
Sunday, August 30 brings a community book swap and Library Lager release to Lion Bridge Brewing from noon to 2 PM. Then Cassill Motors closes the month Monday with its sincere little block party: food trucks, chalk art, vendors, and a car-dealership lot pretending, convincingly, to be a town square.
