This is a hinge week: the last stretch of July folding into the first days of August, with the calendar refusing to concentrate all the fun on one obvious night.
There is scale if you want it, from Stone Temple Pilots at Riverside to Blocktoberfest downtown. There is atmosphere if you would rather sit on a mansion lawn until the blues carries the evening. And there is one very useful Thursday in the middle, with The Ideal's close-room comedy and a small art market making the week feel more personal.
So do not wait for the weekend to tell you what the plan is. This is a week for picking your route: loud, low-key, lawn-chair, or sharp-room.
