The Paramount sits between Weird Al and an Elvis tribute later in the month. McGrath Amphitheatre's concert calendar is quiet until mid-July, though a free movie still fills the lawn Saturday. The Downtown Farmers Market takes Saturday off.
What fills that space is the Cedar Rapids that runs underneath the marquee lights, and this week it is doing plenty. Two comedy bills with real premises bookend a Thursday crawl through Uptown Marion. The Kernels are home every day. Star Trucker takes the NewBo stage Friday night. Out at the Indian Creek Nature Center they are handing out caterpillars, and outdoor theater returns to Brucemore's amphitheater on Friday.
Pick the room with a pulse, the night with a little ease, and the thing you would have missed if nobody tipped you off.
